CVs and effective preparation
Useful hints and tips for preparing and laying out your CV effectively.

 

CV- Useful hints

Use the full width of the page.
Avoid boxes, columns, colours and photos.
Use 11/12 font
Use bold print for headings, avoid Italics.
Month & Year must be included for education and work experience, putting the most recent first.
Use technical terms where appropriate.
A good cv can be between 2 and 3 pages long.

The following is an good example of one accepted structure of a cv.

Use the following Headings to create sections on the cv

Education
3rd Level – College – Year
Trade or Professional Accreditation
2nd Level – School – Year
You can include subjects if you wish


Work Experience
Present position first
Work backwards
If you have been travelling, include dates, location and occupation

Additional Courses
These may include any in-house courses you have attended or any addition courses you have undertaken. Make sure to include college or training company and dates.

Hobbies/Interests
This is a good insight to your leisure activities and can be a very good opportunity for the interviewer to get to know you better.
This also demonstrates how one achieves a good work/life balance.
